Historic Bohemia Manor up for auction

BohemiaManor_633sBohemia Manor Farm, a 12,750 square foot Georgian manor house set on 368 acres of waterfront property on the Bohemia River, will sell during a live auction on  October 12,

The sale was  announced by  DeCaro Luxury Real Estate Auctions, Easton, Md.  Appraised at $9.8 million, the estate will be sold to the highest bidder with no reserve.

Bohemia Manor was founded in 1661 by Augustine Herman, a Czech cartographer, who named it as a tribute to his homeland of Prague, Kingdom of Bohemia. Herman was granted the land from Lord Baltimore, Cecil Calvert, in recognition for creating a map of the Chesapeake Bay coastline.

In 1920, Senator Thomas Bayard, a direct descendant of Augustine Herman, built the  Georgian manor house on the property.

The estate remained in the hands of Herman’s descendants, most recently the Bayard family of Delaware, for more than 350 years, until 2003, when the current owners purchased the property and then restored it in 2003-2007, with the help of  Archer-Buchanan Architecture and  Delaware-based Dewson Construction. The waterfront property features 3,600 feet of water frontage on the Bohemia River and 2,900 feet on Manor Creek, hundreds of acres of tillable fields and  waterfowl impoundments. The  home has  11 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a grand ballroom,  period wall coverings and 10 wood burning fireplaces as well as a guest/caretaker’s cottage and two detached garages.

“This is one of the most historically significant properties in Maryland,” said Daniel DeCaro of DeCaro Luxury Real Estate Auctions. “The beautiful and expansive landscape creates a private setting that respects the historical legacy, while a bevy of amenities add the luxurious comforts of modern living.”

Open houses are scheduled to take place starting on Saturday, September 21, from 1-4 p.m. and will continue every Saturday and Sunday from 1-4 p.m., through Sunday, October 6, with a final preview on Friday, October 11, from 1-4 p.m. The auction takes place at 11 a.m. in cooperation with Heidi Krauss Real Property Brokerage.
